Luna is personalised 11+ reading practice designed to help children build stronger vocabulary and reading comprehension.
Instead of giving every child the same passages and questions, Luna creates short reading practice around the individual learner. Stories can reflect their interests, while the vocabulary and comprehension work adapts as they practise.
The aim is simple: make regular 11+ reading practice more engaging for children, while giving parents a clearer view of their progress.
Why Luna is built around reading
For the 11+, children need to understand unfamiliar words, infer meaning and make sense of increasingly demanding texts. That means they need to read.
Vocabulary becomes more meaningful when children meet words in context, rather than only trying to memorise definitions. Learning that reluctant means “unwilling” is one thing. Meeting a character who pauses at a dark doorway, clearly not wanting to go inside, gives the word something to attach to.
The challenge is keeping children reading long enough for that learning to happen. Books and practice passages that do not interest them can quickly become something to get through rather than something they want to keep reading.
Luna uses AI to create short stories around each child’s interests, while building in the vocabulary and comprehension practice they need. The story gives them a reason to keep going; the learning happens through the reading.
Why we built Luna
We’re parents of children around the age when 11+ preparation becomes relevant. As we began looking more closely at what the exam requires, we realised that tutoring can help enormously with technique and targeted practice, but vocabulary and comprehension develop through regular reading, repeated exposure to unfamiliar words and increasingly demanding text.
The challenge is getting children to do enough of that reading — especially when traditional practice passages don’t always hold their attention. We saw an opportunity to use AI differently. Instead of using it simply to answer questions, we could use it to create fresh, personalised stories around the things each child actually enjoys, while still building in the vocabulary and comprehension practice they need.
That idea became Luna: make the reading more engaging, make the practice more personalised, and give parents a clearer view of how their child is progressing.
Who is Luna for?
Luna is built primarily for children preparing for the 11+, especially those who would benefit from regular vocabulary and reading-comprehension practice.
It can be used independently at home, alongside schoolwork or tutoring, or as part of a wider 11+ routine. The same reading and comprehension skills can also support broader English learning, but Luna’s main focus is helping children build the vocabulary, inference and comprehension skills they need for 11+ preparation.
The idea is short, regular practice rather than hours of screen-based study.
How Luna works
A Luna session is short and focused. Your child reads a personalised story, learns vocabulary in context and answers comprehension questions. Luna tracks their progress, revisiting words and skills that need more practice and introducing new material as they improve.
The aim is not simply to get an answer right once, but to help understanding become more secure over time. Children can also revisit words they have already mastered through their Word Bank and move a word back into practice if they want another go.
How Luna uses AI
AI helps Luna create fresh, personalised reading experiences around each child’s interests.
But AI is the engine, not the purpose of Luna. The learning structure comes first: what a child is practising, which words and skills should return, what they have mastered, and what parents can see about their progress. The goal is simple: use AI to make reading practice more engaging while keeping the focus on genuine 11+ vocabulary and comprehension development.
What parents can see
Children get the practice. Parents get the overview.
The parent dashboard shows how your child is getting on without requiring you to sit beside every session. You can see their reading activity, vocabulary progress, comprehension performance, strengths, areas that may need more practice, and how they are progressing over time.
The goal is not to turn every session into another score to worry about. It is to help you understand where your child is improving and where they may still need support.
